MightyDash is a local-first iPhone dashcam application. This Privacy Policy explains what information MightyDash accesses, how that information is used and stored, the choices available to you, and what happens when you contact support.
Privacy Summary
MightyDash is designed to keep dashcam recordings and related app data on your iPhone. MightyDash does not require an account and does not operate a cloud service for your recordings.
The MightyDash app does not include advertising, analytics, telemetry, tracking, third-party advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or third-party crash-reporting services. We do not sell personal information. We do not receive your recordings, audio, precise location, driving speed, app settings, or on-device diagnostic logs.
You can choose to export a recording to Photos, share it using the iOS share sheet, or contact support through the MightyDash website. Those actions are initiated by you and are described below.
Information the App Accesses
Camera
MightyDash requests camera permission to show a live camera preview and create dashcam video recordings. Depending on your iPhone, settings, and available hardware, the app may use a rear camera and may optionally use a front camera. Front and rear recordings may be saved as separate local video files.
Camera access is necessary for the app's core dashcam functionality. You can deny or revoke camera permission in iOS Settings, but MightyDash cannot show a camera preview or record video without it.
Microphone
Audio recording is off by default. If you enable Record Audio in Videos, MightyDash requests microphone permission and includes microphone audio in the video recordings it creates.
You can leave audio recording disabled, deny microphone permission, disable audio recording in MightyDash, or revoke microphone permission in iOS Settings. Video recording remains available without microphone access.
Location and Driving Speed
Location features are optional and off by default. If you enable a feature that needs location, MightyDash requests permission to access your location while the app is in use.
MightyDash may use location while recording to:
- Calculate and display an approximate driving speed in miles per hour on the recording screen.
- Look up a city and state or similar regional place name to display with a saved recording when Add Location to Recordings is enabled.
Recent precise locations used during a recording session are held temporarily in memory. MightyDash does not write precise latitude and longitude coordinates into its saved location metadata. When location naming is enabled, the app saves only the returned city, state, or comparable regional name in a small local sidecar file associated with the recording.
To convert a location into a place name, MightyDash uses Apple's MapKit or Core Location reverse-geocoding service. The request is handled by Apple-provided system frameworks and may require network communication with Apple. Apple's handling of information through its services is governed by Apple's applicable privacy policies and terms.
You can disable MightyDash location features at any time and can revoke location permission in iOS Settings. Disabling location does not prevent camera recording.
Photos
MightyDash does not save recordings to Photos by default and does not request permission to read your Photos library.
When you choose Save to Photosfor a specific recording, MightyDash requests add-only Photos permission and asks iOS to copy that recording into your Photos library. After a recording is copied to Photos, the copy is managed by the Photos app and is no longer controlled by MightyDash's local retention or deletion settings.
Files You Choose to Share
When you choose Share for a recording, MightyDash uses the standard iOS share sheet. You choose the person, app, service, or destination that receives the file. MightyDash does not select a recipient and does not receive information about the destination you choose.
Once shared, the copied recording is subject to the privacy practices and retention rules of the recipient or service you selected. Deleting the original recording from MightyDash does not delete copies previously shared elsewhere.
Device and Storage Information
MightyDash accesses limited device and storage information needed to operate the camera and recording features. This can include available storage capacity, camera availability and supported formats, thermal state, and camera system-pressure state.
The app uses this information to configure compatible recording settings, display available storage, respond to heat or camera pressure, and help diagnose recording failures. MightyDash does not send this information to the developer or an analytics service.
App Settings
MightyDash stores your app preferences in the iOS user-defaults storage assigned only to the app. These settings can include retention length, camera selection, video quality, frame rate, front-camera preference, audio preference, display-overlay preference, speed-display preference, and location preference.
App settings remain on your device and are removed when iOS removes the app's container, subject to normal iOS behavior.
On-Device Diagnostics
MightyDash maintains a small local diagnostic log to help describe camera configuration, recording starts and stops, camera interruptions, thermal conditions, system pressure, available storage, and recording errors. The app keeps a current log and one rotated previous log, each limited to approximately 512 KB.
Diagnostic logs remain inside the app container, are excluded from device backup, and are not automatically transmitted to us. The app does not currently provide an automatic diagnostic-upload feature.
How Recordings and Related Data Are Stored
Recordings are stored in MightyDash's private Application Support directory inside the app container. Recording thumbnails are stored in the app's cache directory. Optional city and state labels are stored in local sidecar files next to their associated recordings. These directories and files are marked to be excluded from device backup.
Other apps cannot normally access the MightyDash app container. A person with access to your unlocked iPhone, a recording you export, or a backup or device-management environment outside MightyDash may have different access depending on the controls provided by iOS and that environment.
Retention and Deletion
The default recording-retention period is seven days. MightyDash currently lets you select a retention period from three through thirty days.
MightyDash checks for expired recordings at several points, including app preparation, recording start, recording completion, and relevant settings changes. When an expired recording is deleted, MightyDash also attempts to delete its associated location sidecar and cached thumbnails.
You can manually delete individual recordings from the Recordings screen. Uninstalling MightyDash normally removes recordings, settings, diagnostics, and other information in the app container according to iOS behavior.
MightyDash cannot delete copies that you previously saved to Photos, shared with another person or app, or otherwise exported outside the app container. Delete those copies from their destination separately.
Information We Do Not Collect Through the App
MightyDash does not use an app-operated server or developer-operated cloud account. Through the iOS app itself, we do not collect:
- Dashcam video or microphone audio.
- Precise or approximate location.
- Driving speed.
- Photos-library contents.
- Device identifiers or advertising identifiers.
- Contacts, messages, browsing history, or data from other apps.
- Usage analytics, advertising data, or tracking data.
- On-device settings or diagnostic logs.
Support Communications
If you contact us through https://mightydash.app/support, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, subject, message, app version, iPhone model, and iOS version.
We use support information only to respond to your request, investigate the issue you report, maintain related support records, protect the support service from abuse, and comply with applicable legal obligations. We do not use support messages for advertising or sell them to third parties.
The support form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to help distinguish legitimate visitors from automated abuse. When the form loads, Turnstile may process security signals such as your IP address, TLS fingerprint, user-agent header, site key, and the website origin. We send the resulting verification token and your IP address to Cloudflare for validation before accepting a support request. Cloudflare states that it uses these signals for bot detection and blocking. See Cloudflare's Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
Accepted support messages are delivered to our support inbox using Brevo's transactional email service. Brevo processes the contact details and message contents needed to deliver and maintain that support email. See Brevo's Privacy Policy.
We retain support correspondence only for as long as reasonably needed for those purposes. You may request deletion of your support correspondence by submitting a request through the support form. We may retain limited information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to document and protect legal rights.
Do not send dashcam recordings, precise location information, or other sensitive personal information through the support form unless it is necessary for your request and you are comfortable providing it.
External Websites and Services
MightyDash contains links that can open mightydash.app, the developer's website, or other destinations in your browser. Websites and external services operate outside the MightyDash app container and may have their own privacy practices.
Apple system services used for permissions, Photos saving, sharing, location, and reverse geocoding are provided by Apple and are governed by their applicable policies and terms. Apps or services you select from the iOS share sheet are governed by their own policies.
Data Security
MightyDash uses the iOS app sandbox and Apple-provided storage and permission controls to limit access to local data. Recording files, related metadata, thumbnails, and diagnostic logs are excluded from backup by the app.
No method of storage or transmission is guaranteed to be completely secure. Protect your iPhone with a strong passcode, keep iOS updated, review app permissions periodically, and use care when sharing recordings that may contain people, voices, license plates, locations, or other sensitive information.
Your Choices and Controls
You can:
- Choose whether to grant camera, microphone, location, and add-only Photos permissions.
- Change or revoke those permissions in iOS Settings.
- Keep audio and location features disabled.
- Select a recording-retention period within the range offered by the app.
- Delete recordings individually in MightyDash.
- Delete copies separately from Photos or other destinations where you exported them.
- Remove the app and its local container through iOS.
- Request deletion of support correspondence through the support form.
Revoking a permission stops future access through that permission but does not automatically delete recordings or exports that were created earlier.
Recording Other People
Recordings may capture passengers, bystanders, voices, vehicles, license plates, homes, businesses, and other information. Laws governing video and audio recording, notice, consent, windshield mounting, and device use while driving vary by location.
You are responsible for using MightyDash safely and lawfully, providing any notice or obtaining any consent required where you use it, and avoiding interaction with the app while driving.
Children's Privacy
MightyDash is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. If you believe a child submitted personal information through the support form, contact us through https://mightydash.app/support so the request can be reviewed and the information deleted where appropriate.
International Use
MightyDash may be used in locations with different privacy, recording, and data-protection laws. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to your use of the app. Support information may be processed in the location where the developer or support providers operate.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when MightyDash's features, data practices, legal obligations, or support processes change. The updated policy will be posted at https://mightydash.app/privacy with a revised Last updated date. Material changes should be published before or when the related app change becomes available.
